Are you celebrating your life?

What are you waiting for?

Most of us have goals, short term and long term.  Our 'To Do' Lists of things we wish to accomplish are endless.  But in addition to your goals, have you identified what you really want in your work life; and have you created your vision?

Create a vision - Be willing to play big

Ana Marie Robertson was born in 1860 and grew up in a farm in upstate New York. As a little girl she used berries and created beautiful water colors. At the age of 10 she began working on the farm picking apples and it wasn't until she was almost 70 that she began to paint watercolors again.  She was ready to pursue her passion and chose to put her energy into her painting. Today we know her as the legendary Grandma Moses.

At any point you can change the direction of your life.

 The Top 5 Political Strategies.

In today's competitive business world, our skill sets and experience are just not enough anymore. In my coaching practice, I see men & woman who are competent and accomplished yet, they are not where they want to be. One of the areas that everyone benefits from is mastering the subtle art of politics.

  1. Socialize effectively within your company. Be conscious and aware at all times because you are being judged. Humans judge, that's just the way it is.Create opportunities for people to get to know you and like you; be strategic about this. It is your career. This enhances your chances of being noticed & promoted. If you appear aloof people tend to reject you.  Awareness of your facial expressions, being willing to be the first to meet and greet, checking in with staff above and around you, joining the occasional lunch with coworkers, asking your boss what you can do for him or her can keep you in good standing.  When clients are worried about their job security, I often work with them on building internal relationships which isn't comfortable for everyone.  In fact, some clients are so busy focusing on their jobs that they hadn't realized how important the little 'niceties' were!  Good politicking builds loyalty for you with the right people.
  2. Network, network, network, within your organization, your community and your field.  This puts you in a position to hear of opportunities and be there at the right time. For a free list of the Top Ten Networking Tips email me at: harvey@carolinabusinesscoach.com
  3. Be your own best advocate.  You need to create good buzz about yourself.  Just because you have done a good job, don't assume that your expertise is evident.  Some people have the attitude that if they put their 'nose to the grindstone' and work diligently, they will be rewarded.  It doesn't work that way. This is not bragging, it is reinforcing your strengths to others. Create your own message or someone else will.
  4. Always make sure you are part of the solution and not the problem. Be seen as having a positive attitude. People don't want to be engaged by continual complainers and bearers of bad news. Learn how to deliver the message so that others can hear you; I work with clients on this alot.
  5. Learn how to have crucial conversations. There is an art to delivering difficult information. Learn how to communicate effectively with all levels of people in the organization. As I said in #1, communicating with subordinates and your peers is only part of the necessary skill set. How to communicate effectively with people at all levels of an organization is essential for your future success.
