Success is a way of thinking, a consciousness. Are you content with your current state of being? “We can let circumstances rule us or we can take charge and rule our lives from within”.

- Earl Nightingale

What do EMPLOYERS want in an EMPLOYEE?

Based on my work with business owners and managers I’ve compiled this list.

1. Communicate effectively – Learn the art of communicating with different types of people. This one skill will give you the ability to communicate with everyone you encounter in business, from clients to co-workers to senior management, enabling you to accelerate your success through effective people skills.

2. Don’t assume because you’re doing a good job they are aware of your hard work. By checking in with your managers you keep them aware of your accomplishments and, in fact, get their agreement that you are doing what assignment, job, or project they want.

3. Become a good listener.

4. Commit to the job – Exhibit enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Create a rhythm that they can come to count on. Be loyal. Would you want someone on your team that doesn’t show loyalty? If you feel you cannot, begin the process of looking for another job.

5. Learn new tasks willingly – Demonstrate initiative and maintain productivity. Become a master of your skills. Be open minded to new learning energy and determination.

6. Accept responsibility – Use time effectively. Evaluate your own work and what needs to improve. Make good decision. Deliver results.

7. Excellent interpersonal skills – Work cooperatively with others. Bosses don’t like to spend time playing mediator. Learn to accept constructive criticism.

System for Implementing Change – This is how clients achieve change. It is a process of small steps that create large and life changing gains. Seeing it on paper doesn’t make it happen. Change is a process that my clients work on each day. Change can be incremental. But change is measurable at the end of the day. I will share this list with you but realize that it is action and guidance that makes this happen.

1. Create a clear vision – Define where you want to be.

2. Build a case for change – State where you are now; state where you want to be. Present the facts as a clear compelling reason for change. Gain agreement for your vision of the future.

3. Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals – Specific. Measurable. Accountable/Attainable. Relevant. Time-Based.

4. Create a Plan of Action – Identify & quantify specific steps which are in alignment with your goals.

5. Build a powerful coalition –Identify whom you need as sponsors for your plan and gain commitment to the change effort.

6. Implement!!!

7. Tweak – The best laid plans … (Tweaking is not failure; tweaking is always required)

8. Communicate your progress

9. Ask for and get support – You can’t change on your own. Change is hard on the individual and the organization. - Work with a Coach

10. Sustain you’re your belief in the change effort- Be prepared for the normal emotional reactions to change – your own and other’s.

11. Celebrate success – Acknowledge short term gains and communicate the connection between new behaviors and personal & corporate success

What do you wish to achieve for the balance of 2006?

How long have you delayed success?

Are you getting in your own way and don’t know how to get out?

Do you have a real perspective on your own performance?

Do you blame others or circumstances for your ‘bad luck’ ‘bad timing’ in business?

Let’s define what success is for you? Reach out to someone who will be your advocate and help you arrive at where you want and deserve to be.

Motivate yourself and others to step up and do something extraordinary? Are you exhilarated by knowing you can face any challenge and conquer it? Have you set up a support system for success?
